The new generation of BMW 5-Series has been revealed a couple of weeks ago and to be honest didn’t make as much noise as you’d expect it to do! The car’s design has changed dramatically as BMW decided to steer clear of the crazy shape of the old gen, and instead come up with something more gentlemanish! Now though the speculations about the new M5 are heating up, and although its design might not be very appealing, its engine damn sure is!

As you now BMW has ceased production of their massive V10 engine and replaced it with a more efficient twin-turbo V8 which, mercifully, is more powerful. This unit in the new X5M and X6M produces 555hp. Now the word is that the 2012 M5 will get a tweaked version of this power plant with 570 to 590 hp! Fantastic.

BMW is currently developing two new models based on its next-gen 3 and 5-series sedans that will take the luxury brand into new territory.

The new models are best described as MPV-wagons, but unlike the current Touring models the new cars will feature a tall ride-height and high roof profile to maximize interior space.The model based on the 5-series, which will be called V5, is due to arrive towards the end of the decade. Audi AG unveiled the Audi R8 V10 on 9 December 2008. It uses a 5.2 litre FSI internal combustion engine, based on the unit in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, but is detuned to produce a motive power output of 386 kilowatts (525 PS; 518 bhp), and generate 530 newton metres (391 ft·lbf) of torque. Compared to the V8 variant, the R8 V10′s performance numbers are enhanced. Audi estimates the new 0-100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) time as only 3.9 seconds, 60-124 mph in 8.1 seconds, and a top speed of 196 mph (315.4 km/h). Other changes to the V10 version of the R8 include some aesthetic differences such as all-LED headlights, interior enhancements, and a more aggressive body styling, larger rear brakes and unique roadwheels.

We’ve occasionally stumbled across prototype vehicles in parking lots or traffic, but we’ve never had one fall into our laps before. This 2012 Hyundai Elantra prototype, however, did just that. We were tending to business in the office when the forthcoming four-door literally parked right beneath our window.

We conveniently chose to take our lunch break at that exact moment, and meandered down to have a look for ourselves. Admittedly, there’s little mystery surrounding the new subcompact sedan since it’s already been launched in Korea, but this was our first close encounter with the new Elantra here in the U.S.

Hyundai is on a serious roll with the Sonata. It started out with the redesigned 2011 Sonata and its very capable standard power plant — a 198-horsepower, direct-injected 2.4-liter engine — and it escalated at last month’s New York auto show with the unveiling of the 274-hp Sonata 2.0T and the lithium-polymer battery-equipped Sonata Hybrid.

So what’s Hyundai’s next move? Well, sources close to the company have suggested it will be the Sonata Coupe. When you look at the fast roofline of the sedan, it’s as if the coupe body style is meant to be — and we have no doubt Hyundai picked the final design for the Sonata with this in mind.
