2011 BMW 535i We’re now officially 37 years beyond the introduction of the first-generation 5 Series and we still haven’t gotten over it. And now the 2011 BMW 535i sedan that we’re driving near Lisbon, Portugal, and around the nearby racetrack at Estoril is part of the sixth generation of the 5 Series family.
How important is the 5 Series family to BMW‘s bottom line? Worldwide, the lineup of these premium executive sedans accounts for just over 50 percent of annual net profits. (Just think of what BMW can do with that money now that its cash-sucking Formula 1 circus act is finally done!) This is also a car that speaks to those who believe in the BMW brand, as 80 percent of 5 Series buyers have owned a BMW already

The corona ring headlights become a characteristic of new BMWs and as expected, they made their way into the new 6 Series as well. The taillights continue to sport an L-shape and LEDs.
While the BMW 6-Series Coupe Concept to impress the audience at 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Bavarian automaker demolished and brought back official information on the new 2012 BMW 650i Convertible. Scheduled to go on sale in spring 2011 as a model for the U.S. in 2012, 2012 BMW 650i Convertible was introduced in relatively low-key way, BMW-like, when we say it ourselves.

BMW’s M division has a long, proud history of building cars with an emphasis on sport. Through the years, BMW M cars have gotten faster, more refined, and more luxurious, but at the expense of weight and physical size. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe is on a mission to right that course, claiming to been inspired by the original (and some say, the greatest) M car: the first-generation E30 series M3.
Consider the 1 Series M Coupe’s dimensions. Measuring 172.4 inches from nose to tail, the car is just 1.3-inches longer than a 1988 M3. Of course, the M Coupe is wider by 4.8 inches, has a longer wheelbase by 3 inches, and is heavier by several hundred pounds (3296 compared to the 1988 M3′s 2800-pound curb weight). Still, compared to the current 3700-pound M3 coupe, the 1 Series M is a lightweight.

BMW today announced several modifications to the 2012 BMW 1 Series Coupe that accentuate efficiency and premium quality. The unmistakable profile of the 1 Series Coupe, which represents the purest expression of BMW DNA is now sharper than ever. The new design of the front fascia on the 128i includes BMW’s innovative Air Curtain that counters turbulence near the wheel arches and so reduces the aerodynamic resistance of the vehicle. New exterior design accents have been incorporated into the headlight and tail light clusters.
The 135i can be equipped with BMW’s 7-speed Double Clutch Transmission (DCT), as featured on the BMW Z4 Roadster. Equipped with DCT, the 135i Coupe will accomplish the 0-60 mph sprint in a scorching 5.0 seconds. A 6-speed Steptronic automatic remains optional on the 128i. So equipped, the 128i Coupe runs 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds, or 6.1 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission.
We’ve been longing for an M version of BMW’s 1 Series coupe since the 1 Series tii concept made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show back in 2007. Finally, recent spy photos point to this coming true, most likely by 2011 in Europe and 2012 in North America. A source at BMW told us two things regarding a 1 Series M: First, that “there seems to be something to the rumors.” And second, if it happens, it will be during the North American coupe’s current life cycle, which puts it no later than the 2013 model year.
